China’s newest wine trade fair — Wine to Asia — is slated for November 20 and 21 in Shenzhen.
Co-organized by Veronafiere and Pacco Communications, Wine to Asia was originally slated for early November. The new date avoids other key fairs and provides a later option for those moving wine before Chinese New Year or who have been unable to join many or any events due to the coronavirus crisis. Shenzhen is also a city where most everyone is from some place else and thus offers China-wide networking opportunities.
One major feature will be Living Wine, a dedicated natural wine area in partnership with top importer Ziran. (Natural wine is gaining popularity in major cities.) There will also be pavilions by Rioja, Wines of Chile and Italian Trade Agency as well as wine from more than a dozen countries, including Italy, Chile, Spain, France, Argentina and, of course, China.
In terms of events, the classes and tastings will include Franciacorta, the top orange winemakers of Slovenia, and Chinese wine using Marselan grapes, which are increasingly popular here. (Note: I have given input re the Marselan class. Check out my World Marselan Day project here.)
There will also be a forum by Wine to Asia partner WINWSA (Women in Wine & Spirits Awards), including topics like consumer insights and wine trends in China.
I’ll post more about Wine to Asia soon, including a Q&A with Veronafiere’s Simone Incontro. See my previous Q&A’s with him here, here and here. (Photos from the recent Veronafiere-backed VinItaly roadshow in China.)
