By Jim Boyce | Champagne producer Billecart-Salmon switched distributors a few months ago, jumping to Sarment from Links, and the latter is clearing its Hong Kong stock at low prices. Brut Reserve is just HKD275 at Links’ Wine Shop Asia site, half of the regular price, while 2002 Brut Rose Cuvee Elisabeth Salmon is HKD1500 versus the usual HKD2707. For those buying bulk, the price is even lower on Bid Vino, a site co-founded by Links, with brut at HKD1500 for a six-pack or HKD250 per bottle—that translates to RMB225—while rosé is HKD425 versus the typical HDK750 per bottle.
In contrast, Fancy Cellar in Shanghai is listing a sale price on that brut reserve of RMB799, versus a regular one of RMB1060. Yes, Hong Kong is duty free in terms of wine, but even considering that, the sales prices there at the moment are impressive.
