By Jim Boyce | The U.S.-based Society of Wine Educators will pair with Ningxia’s Helan Mountain wine federation for a conference in Yinchuan, the regional capital, this summer.
The event will include July 12 sessions on Ningxia wines with local winery reps, including Zhang Jing, Gao Yuan, Zhou Shuzhen, Wang Fang and Jiang Qiang, as well as a session on Napa Valley wines by Barry Wiss, vice president of SWE. There will also be talks on the style of Ningxia wines and on whether they should be considered Old World or New World, led by professor Ma Huiqin of China Agricultural University and Tan Yin Hsien, a Master of Wine.
Attendees will have a chance to visit three wineries the following day, with choices including Chandon, Changyu Moser XV, Helan Qing Xue, Kanaan, Lanyi, Lilan, Miqin, Yuange and Yuanshi. The SWE’s blog Wine, Wit & Wisdom carried a post about Ningxia last October–see here.
