The downtown Beijing branch of South African restaurant and wine bar Pinotage is on the move. With the venue in Sanlitun Soho slated to close as early as this weekend, the team has opened a new place above nearby Danish restaurant Royal Smushi House. The suburban branch of Pinotage continues as usual.

It’ll take a week or two to fine-tune things, including moving furniture from the old place to the new, but this is a nice space with a long bar, a dining area that will ultimately seat about forty, and a deck that overlooks the leafy north end of Sanlitun. Food favorites like the biltong carpaccio, roasted bone marrow and ostrich burger remain on the menu. Also held over are the weekday wine happy hours: rmb15 per glass, Monday to Friday, 5 PM to 7 PM.

Pinotage stocks dozens of South African labels, most of them self-imported, and also sells wine online. It has also provided South African wine fans with everything from winemaker-led tastings to creative pairings.
