Wine Enthusiast Companies, publisher of Wine Enthusiast magazine, is teaming up with Chinese online wine retailer YesMyWine for a two-phase project that includes a digital Chinese-language magazine and a wine accessories website. The following info is from a Wine Enthusiast press release that states the digital magazine will come first and include:
1. International content for Chinese wine consumers to enjoy about wines from the United States, China, France, Italy, South America, Australia and other parts of the wine world where Wine Enthusiast Magazine has journalists and editorial offices.
2. Educational articles about wine to expand the knowledge of YesMyWine’s customer base.
3. Tens of thousands of wine ratings and reviews based on the famous 100 point scale which will help provide the YesMyWine customer direction for their wine purchasing needs.
A one-year subscription will be about rmb80, with top wine buyers at YesMyWine getting it free. Word is the publication will include both translated material from the magazine’s and custom-made content for the China edition. Look for a launch within the next two months.
On top of that, Wine Enthusiast states it will create a Chinese-language website with “thousands of wine related accessories and wine refrigerators that [YesMyWine] will link to and WEC [Wine Enthusiast Companies] will ship directly to YMW’s customers in China to expand YMW’s product selection and grow their sales.” WEC Chairman Adam Strum says he sees a bright future for YesMyWine: “I predict YMW in the next five years will become the first multi-billion dollar internet wine company“, while YesMyWine CEO Jared Liu is quoted as saying, “We look forward to exposing our 4.5 million YMW consumers to the ratings and reviews that Wine Enthusiast’s authoritative journalists will provide.”
I will have more on this story soon. Please bear with me as the blog was recently hacked and we’re still catching up.
